This week ‘ellenor’, the charity which supports families facing terminal illness in Kent, received a vital boost with a donation of over £3,000 from the Freemasons Grand Charity.

Representatives of several local lodges visited ellenor Gravesend to present the cheque and learn how the money would be used by the charity. The funds will help them continue to provide the very best care and support services to families, 90% of which are delivered directly in the homes of service users.

Director of Patient Care, Jacquie Hackett, gave an update on the work carried out by the charity, both in its centres and out in the community and highlighted the many new services that have been introduced in recent months. These include a gym and clinics to help manage fall prevention, fatigue and breathlessness – all of which lead to significantly improved outcomes and a reduction in hospital visits.

Jacquie said, “Being diagnosed with a life limiting condition causes great anxiety, we aim to help relive that by caring for families in their place of choice. As a charity, not part of the NHS, ellenor needs to raise over £6.7 million each year to provide its round-the-clock care for families facing terminal illness.   We’re extremely grateful for this donation and the ongoing support we’ve had from Freemasonry over the years. They are essential for us to continue our work.”
