Barber’s ‘Adagio’ and Opera Dinner on 12th & 18th July – part of Jam on the Marsh

Barber Adagio and Vaughan Williams Oboe Concerto // 12 July

Enjoy an exquisite concert for strings and oboe, performed by one of the finest ensembles in the UK.  Red Note Ensemble will perform Barber’s Adagio, voted as one of the most popular pieces of music ever written.  It has featured in many films including The Elephant Man (David Lynch) and Platoon (Oliver Stone).  This beautiful work will be joined by Vaughan Williams’ Oboe Concerto; a quintessential English pastoral piece.

Commemorating WW1, these great works will be joined by Judith Bingham’s Oboe Concerto: The Angel of Mons which sets the legend that a group of angels guided the British Army to safety at the outset of war.

Opera Dinner – Music from the film Quartet // 18 July

Friday night is music night, and this concert will fill the Mercure Hythe Imperial’s newly renovated ballroom full of the greatest songs of opera!

Four singers who grace the stages of Welsh National Opera, Opera North, Royal Opera House, English National Opera and Glyndebourne will perform music based on the film Quartet, including works by Delibes, Lehar, Mozart, Puccini, Rossini, Smetana, with the highlight of the evening: Verdi’s famous Quartet from Rigoletto.

Enjoy a glass of champagne, then a sumptuous 3-course dinner as your ears are massaged by sweet music sung by the fastest rising stars of British opera.
