Become a Samaritan with Sevenoaks Samaritans

Samaritans are available by phone or by email 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – including over Christmas and New Year. Every call can help someone turn their life around and make a real difference to their future

Have you ever thought about becoming a Samaritan? Is your New Year’s Resolution to meet new people, learn new skills, give something back, or make a difference?

Welcome to Sevenoaks Samaritans!  We have an enthusiastic and thriving community of volunteers and have already recruited and trained more than 100 listening volunteers and are looking for more.

We welcome a wide range of applicants. You need to be 18 or over and we will train, mentor and support you all the way. You won’t need to have previous experience or qualifications, but you will need to be non-judgemental and accepting of others. It doesn’t necessarily matter if you’ve gone through difficult times yourself. What matters is that you want to help people find their own way – all kinds of people, from all walks of life.

If listening is not for you, there is a myriad of other ways to get involved – marketing, fundraising, administration and finance, IT and recruitment. We’d love to hear from you.

Our volunteers are not only on the phone – this year we organised a sponsored dog walk, attended Tonbridge Pride, we supported Sevenoaks Lions at their Heavy Horse Show and we make regular visits to local stations and foodbanks to raise awareness of our services.

If listening is not for you, there is a myriad of other ways to get involved too – marketing, fundraising, administration and finance, IT, recruitment and training. We’d love to hear from you.

To find out more about volunteering and joining our ever-growing community of volunteers, please take a look at our website, Sevenoaks Samaritans or contact us on  We’ll be holding an open morning on January 13th, do get in touch for details, come and have a cuppa and meet us – we really look forward to meeting you too!
