Blenheim Forge: Hand-forged chef knives made in Peckham

The perfect gifts for Christmas

Blenheim Forge, the Peckham-based forge team, are creating a limited number of hand-crafted Japanese steel knives just in time for Christmas.

Blenheim Forge’s chef knives are reputed among world-class chefs for their high character and performance, with fans including Nigella Lawson, Nuno Mendes, Gordon Ramsay, Francis Mallman, Jamie Oliver and Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall. Each knife boasts a core of Japanese Aogami carbon steel (also known as ‘Blue Paper Steel’), enhanced through a metal lamination technique creating ripples of steel – which now form Blenheim Forge’s signature aesthetic.

Alongside their classic range of knives, which includes the best-selling Santoku, an all-rounder favoured by chefs and cooking enthusiasts alike, and the Nakiri blade, expertly designed for vegetable prep, Blenheim Forge have also created a selection of limited edition knives which will be available in the lead up to Christmas:

Oyster Knife

Blenheim Forge’s limited edition Oyster Knife is forged from a high carbon Swedish stainless steel, with a handle carefully crafted from a selection of native hardwoods including oak and maple. The oyster knife has been developed in collaboration with Oyster Boy Events, and has a reassuring weight that fits comfortably in the hand, with a sturdy blade and hand-forged taper. A leather sheath, specifically designed and hand stitched by Deptford-based leather worker Owen Leather to house the knife, can also be purchased (£45).

The Oyster Knife is available to buy now.

Carving Set

The brand new, limited edition Carving Set is hand forged from two types of Swedish high carbon steel, repeatedly folded together to result in strong blades with beautiful wood-like patterns. The knife and carving fork handles are made from centuries-old East Anglian Bog Oak, one of the densest and hardest-wearing timbers found in the UK. The set is designed specifically for carving joints of meat or roast poultry and comes in a hand-stitched leather folder, made by local leather worker Owen Leather.

The Carving Set will be released on November 1st.

The Blenheim Forge shop is open Monday to Friday* for browsing and knife-sharpening classes, and will open on Sunday 23rd October, Saturday 3rd December and Sunday 4th December for weekend Christmas shopping**. A further selection of unique, one-off Japanese steel knives will be available to purchase at the forge on these dates.
