Book your visit to the spiritual home of English wine: Tickets now on sale for Canterbury Wine Festival 2022

Sip and savour the ‘spiritual home’ of English wine this summer in the heart of historic Canterbury.

Westgate Community Trust and Master of Wine Clive Barlow will present the second Canterbury Wine Festival™ on Saturday 25th June.

Westgate Hall, in the heart of the cathedral city, will invite wine explorers and lovers to celebrate Kent’s wines, among the finest in Europe, during English Wine Week.

The Festival, hosted by the vibrant community-focused venue, will bring Kent’s unique terroir to the city centre as it showcases over 25 local wines. Multi-awarding wine producers, such as Simpsons Wine Estate, Balfour Hush Heath, Biddenden and Chartham, newer producers, including Heppington and Wayfarer, as well as the Wine Garden of England, will illustrate its diversity.

Visitors will receive a very warm welcome, as the wine producers guide guests through the wines on offer and share the incredible story of Kent’s viticulture.

During one of two three-hour bookable sessions (£35pp), enthusiasts will be able to sip and sample their way around Kent’s vineyards and talk to the wine makers themselves.

Canterbury Wine Festival™ co-host and renowned wine expert Clive Barlow – one of only 384 Masters of Wine in the world – is offering an additional 45-minute Masterclass experience with wines curated by him to introduce the unique qualities of Kent wine (£20pp). Wines will be available to buy by the bottle on the day, to take home and enjoy.

Imogen Morizet, Chair of Westgate Hall Community Trust Ltd said: “We can’t tell you how much it means to finally bring the second Canterbury Wine Festival™ to the city, having postponed it twice due to the pandemic. Our thirst for celebrating Kent’s vineyards has only grown during this time and the Festival will be bigger and better as a result!

“Kent is by far the most exciting and fastest growing wine provinces in the UK. Our unique combination of climate and soil allows our truly talented vineyards to produce a wide range of still and sparkling wines.

“Our wine producers are helping our economy to grow and thrive. They are at the heart of the future of English wine, and with the city being at the centre of Kent’s wine industry, we call Canterbury ‘the spiritual home of Kent wine’, even English wine!

“Kent’s wines create jobs and entice tourists. With the Westgate Community Trust and Clive Barlow having deep roots in Canterbury’s community, we are thrilled to be supporting our city and the surrounding region in making this reality. Our wines are world class and deserve to be enjoyed. We all benefit by celebrating them. Please come and join us in discovering, enjoying, supporting and celebrating Kent’s award-winning wines and the imaginative determined people creating them!”

Master of Wine Clive Barlow said: “Kent is leading the way when it comes to English wine, and it’s now, after these past two years, that we need to celebrate and raise our glasses to this exceptional industry and our homegrown success as we continue to shine, surprise, and delight the world with our viticulture. Wine is a social lubricant and it’s a joyful way to bring people together. Which is why we’ve created this one-off opportunity to experience so many wines and meet all these producers in one place, on your doorstep – don’t miss it.”

Canterbury Wine Festival™ is ready to flourish once again thanks to the continued support of Headline sponsor — Burgess Hodgson Chartered Accountants, our Key Partner — Girlings Solicitors, and supporters — Canterbury Business Improvement District (BID) and Clive Barlow, Oz Clarke, and Ruth and Charles Simpson of Simpsons’ Wine Estate in Barham with their shared wisdom, generosity and passion for Kent wine.
