4 Mistakes to Avoid When Visiting Las Vegas

Las Vegas is a place unlike anywhere else on the planet. Truly iconic, it’s a destination that people feel like they understand even when they haven’t yet been there to see it for themselves.

If done correctly, Las Vegas is a city that’ll deliver on various fronts, providing a getaway that will live long in the memory for all the right reasons. But the key part of that sentence is ‘if done correctly.’ First-time visitors can be guilty of making a number of mistakes that prevent them from having as good a time as they should.

In this post, we’ll run through some of these common errors. If you’re planning a trip to Vegas, make sure you avoid them!

Not Staying on The Strip

Don’t get us wrong — there are plenty of places around Las Vegas worth visiting. However, if it’s your first time travelling to Sin City, then you’ll want to focus the majority of your time on the Las Vegas Strip, which is where the majority of the hotels, casinos, and tourist attractions are located. You might get a better deal on hotels located away from this area, but you’ll only kick yourself when you arrive. Save staying elsewhere for subsequent visits when you’ve already done the bulk of the main attractions.

Also, keep in mind the Strip is actually more than 4 miles long and takes 1.5 hours to walk end to end. Staying somewhere in the middle is ideal since you’ll have the buzz of the city right on your doorstep.

Staying in the City All The Time

It’s easy to get wrapped up in all the fun of Las Vegas. You could stay for weeks and still have plenty of things to do. However, if you’re travelling from the UK, then it’s recommended to spend some of your trip to Las Vegas away from the city.

Why? Because the surrounding area is jam-packed with awe-inspiring attractions. There aren’t too many things that could drag us away from the bright lights of Las Vegas, but Grand Canyon National Park is most definitely one of them. You can drive there in a few hours from the city, or if time is tight, look at booking yourself onto one of the helicopter tours that’ll take you to the National Park. They’re a lot more affordable than you might think.

The Casinos

Everyone knows that Las Vegas is the casino town. While there’s a lot to do in Vegas beyond the casinos, it’s the games that rule the roost around these parts. Even visitors who don’t usually frequent casinos should play a game or two; after all, there’s nowhere quite like Vegas for this type of thing. The mistake people make is playing games that they don’t fully understand, or that they haven’t played in a long time. Visitors who play roulette, slots, or blackjack online before they travel will have a better sense of how to navigate the casinos of Las Vegas. Plus, playing online first allows visitors to go into the casino with a clear game plan, which is essential for performing well.

Going at the Wrong Time of Year

Las Vegas is a year-round destination. However, that doesn’t mean that it offers the same experience all year round. It doesn’t. The winter months are drastically different from the summer months, for example. It’s recommended to read up on how Vegas changes throughout the year, and then figure out which time of year is right for you. In general, it’s best to avoid the height of summer, since the temperatures can reach the high thirties. Visiting May – June or September – October is usually advised since those periods bring agreeable temperatures, better hotel prices, and fewer crowds.

Take these tips on board, and you’ll find it much easier to have the kind of Vegas experience that all first-time visitors should have — and we’re pretty sure that it won’t be your last, either.
