As the Spotlight Returns to Medieval Britain on Screens, Maidstone Museum Announces Special Kent Event
Sitting on the southeast of England, Kent has a long history of foreign incursions, most notably by the dreaded Viking armies that continued to crash into the British coastline. Throughout the Middle Ages, the Kingdom of Kent was a coveted prize, with Canterbury and Rochester often the central focus for defenders and invaders.
Recently, Medieval Britain has been the subject of many very popular outings on-screen. The Last Kingdom and Vikings both leant heavily into the brutal age of invasions and the beginning of unification under Alfred the Great. Now, with more coming to explore this age of British history, Maidstone Museum is putting on a special event.
Middle Ages All the Rage Right Now
With both Vikings and The Last Kingdom concluded for a while now, it’s time to take us back to the days of Medieval Britain. One of the most prominent and highly anticipated entries coming soon takes place a fair bit on from the days of Viking incursions, instead focusing on the history-defining Battle of Hastings in 1066.
Starring James Norton as the Earl of Wessex and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as the would-be William the Conqueror, the one-shot miniseries homes in on the trials for both men at home before they’re destined to meet on the south coast of England. Already, major studios beyond the BBC are snapping up deals to show the historical drama.
However, there is also plenty of Viking entertainment out there proving to be a hit already, with even more in the works. Created by the mastermind behind the surprise hit Vikings, Michael Hirst, Bloodaxe is currently in the works. It’s said to follow the famed Erik Bloodaxe from the Norwegian throne to an epic clash in Northumbria. That new show is expected to land sometime in 2026.
For now, those seeking a dose of Viking action can turn to the ever-expanding library of Norse games online. Found as a very prominent setting among online bingo games, Vikings continue to run riot in the slots category. Viking Forge, Vikings Unleashed Megaways, Viking: The Saga of Fenrir, and Book of Vikings headline the most popular picks of the bunch, alongside Age of the Gods: Norse Legends.
