Decorating Your Home for an Event
Though birthdays come each year, they are meant to be a special celebration. It’s not just about being a year older but sharing another year with friends and family. While it may be possible to host a birthday shindig at your own home, there is a litany of problems that can arise in the process.
Though it might be more ideal to host the event at a venue, that isn’t in everyone’s budget. If you think that hosting at your home may be the most likely solution, there are a few things that you can do to bolster the look and feel of the event.

Use Your Walls
Though there are plenty of reasons to check out event venues in London, that kind of thing can get costly quickly. Decorating at home makes sense for a lot of reasons, but you have to make use of the space well enough to maximize your options.
Check out any interior design scheme and you will notice that the walls are in play. Rather than leaving the family photos or art up, try to swap them out with things that relate to the party. Decorations and other swag can go up on the walls as well, making the entire scene cohesive.
Bring in the Outdoors
There are complications with using an event venue outdoors. If you want to have that outdoors feel, there is a way to bring the outdoors inside. Use flowers and plants around your home to give things a bit of a tropical feel. It will make things feel a bit fresher without having to deal with the weather, bugs, or any other issues that come with the great outdoors.
Even something as simple as a minimal floral arrangement featuring a few small vases can make a world of difference. Just make sure that whatever you choose is cohesive with the overall theme, including colors. It’s a simple yet effective way to open up the space and make it feel less constricted.
Organization is Your Friend
Though it may not necessarily ring a bell when it comes to the decoration and design of a party, organization can go a long way. For instance, make sure that you make use of the right trays to keep food, drinks, and any favors together. By choosing the right look, they can blend perfectly with the motif.
The best thing about trays is that they don’t have to be single use items. Use them around your home for little everyday things. Maybe one can be a place for your keys. Another can be great for holding sunglasses while yet another holds remotes. There is nothing quite like maximizing the usage that you get out of your decorations.
Lighting is Critical
Perhaps the most underlooked aspect of hosting a party is mood lighting. It can be easy to miss amidst all the details and decorations, but the right lighting can add to the overall mood of the gathering and benefit it. Just remember to go subtle and avoid completely drowning the setting in a different color lighting.
Swap out some white bulbs with a few colored ones to give a cooler effect than you would normally have. For holiday parties like Halloween or St. Patrick’s Day, you can use colors that are strongly associated with those days. You can even put dimmers on them to set the ambiance when it comes time to celebrate a birthday with candles and cake.
Make Sure to Have Seating
A major difficulty when it comes to hosting a party in your home is ensuring that you have enough seating. Even if you have a large living room, there is only so much space to grab a seat on the coach, a recliner, or on a loveseat. Which is why it’s the perfect opportunity to provide seating while bolstering your overall aesthetic.
Rather than going with the cheaper and more common folding chair, consider a fancier wooden option. It lends a bit of class to the scene while also providing ample seating for anyone in attendance. Guests should be comfortable but seating should tie into the overall look.
