Kent’s Finest Orlando Bloom Reportedly Interested in Pirates of the Caribbean Reboot
Orlando Bloom is arguably the most famous actor to have emerged from Kent, with his key role in The Lord of the Rings franchise kicking off a glittering career on the screen.
Along with Peter Jackson’s J. R. R. Tolkien adaptation, Pirates of the Caribbean was the other major franchise that turned Bloom into a household name. Now, the actor has expressed a desire to reboot the swashbuckling series with the original cast in place.
Pirates of the Caribbean Franchise Was Hugely Influential
Bloom has been in some huge blockbusters over the years, and Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the biggest. The franchise has made over $7.9 billion from five films, and is also credited with bringing the pirate genre back into the mainstream.
In the wake of Pirates of the Caribbean, there was an influx of new pirate-themed offerings across the media, from television to games. For instance, Black Sails on Starz took advantage of the hype around the franchise and became one of the most successful series on the network.
There have also been a lot of pirate games in recent years, with countless options on mobile. These include titles like Sea of Thieves, Last Pirate: Survival Island, and The Pirate: Plague of the Dead. The iGaming industry is awash with slots in the pirate genre too, with 8 Golden Skulls of Holly Roger Megaways Firepot among the most played Megaways casino games.
Bloom Has Expressed a Desire to Get the Original Cast Together
It’s clear from all this related content that there’s a widespread interest in pirates thanks to the brilliance of the Pirates of the Caribbean film series. Walt Disney Pictures is hoping to continue the franchise with future offerings, with rumours suggesting there are plans for a female-led spinoff led by Margot Robbie. However, nothing has been officially confirmed yet.
Bloom was a key star in the original trilogy, but he didn’t appear in the fourth film and only had a minor role in the latest entry in 2017. In a recent interview, Bloom said he wasn’t sure about the idea of replacing Johnny Depp’s legendary Captain Jack Sparrow with a female lead, and that he was in favour of getting the original cast back together for a sixth film.
What are some of Bloom’s Latest Works?
Unfortunately, it may be a long wait before Bloom dons his pirate attire again, but there are still plenty of ways to enjoy the Kent actor’s skills on the screen. He has put in some excellent performances in recent years, starring in Red Right Hand and The Cut last year.
Bloom’s most recent role was in Deep Cover alongside Bryce Dallas Howard and Nick Mohammed on Amazon Prime Video. The entertaining crime caper was well received by critics and is well worth a watch.
It’s been a while since Bloom was in a major Hollywood blockbuster, so it would be great to see him reprise his role of Will Turner in another Pirates of the Caribbean movie. However, despite the actor being interested, no new films have been confirmed in the franchise yet.
