Celebrating pedal power at Betteshanger
Betteshanger Park, near Deal, will host its inaugural Bonkers Bike Festival on Sunday, August 14th. The free family fun day will see the Park celebrate all things pedal powered – showcasing everything from the elite to the wacky. Cyclists from leisure riders to champions will compete in a sensational packed programme of races.
Take part
Riders with the need for speed are invited to compete in thrilling timed mountain bike race series (adult and junior categories) or have a go at road riding with expert coaching provided our resident road club members. For a lighter touch, visitors can build their own wacky 2 wheeled vehicle and enter the Bonkers Bike Race, dress to impress in the Fancy Dress Race or show off their treasured bicycle in the Vintage Bike Parade.

Fantastic prizes are on offer including loads of bike based paraphernalia. Prizes will be awarded for the fastest, best dressed and most entertaining. All races and parades are free to enter.
Watch
As well as the brilliant bike races, visitors will see awe inspiring bike based feats with quirky Bicycle Ballet’s Strictly Cycling and have the unique opportunity to ride high on the iconic British cycling machine, the penny farthing. Plus they’ll be asked to exercise their vocal chords and cheer on the races!
There’ll be fabulous food and drink stalls from local suppliers, children’s activities and plenty of other spectator attractions to add to the festival atmosphere.
Kieron Driver, Betteshanger Parks Cycling Coordinator, says: “Betteshanger has a good reputation within the local cycling community for offering exceptional facilities. Our Bonkers Bike Festival will celebrate this and show a wider audience the fun and health benefits that can be gained on two wheels. We invite competitive cyclists to join our time trial events and those who want to take things a bit less seriously can build their own crazy bikes, enter the fancy dress race or, if they have a special bike they would like to showcase, they can enter the Vintage Bike Parade.”
