Charities Porchlight and CEO Sleepout join forces for fundraising sleepout at Leeds Castle

Porchlight is partnering with CEO Sleepout for their event at Leeds Castle on 12 May, from 8pm to 6am.

CEO Sleepout is a charity motivated to fight homelessness due to the shockingly high numbers of people facing housing crisis in the UK. They facilitate sleep out events across the country for business leaders to help raise money for local charities changing lives in their communities. To get a feel for what a CEO Sleepout event entails, watch this short film from their Northumberland event in 2021.

Porchlight’s frontline teams already bring hope and help to vulnerable people in Kent who are forced to sleep rough, or face losing their homes. But there’s so much more to do. Lockdown safety nets that helped the poorest people in our communities keep a roof over their heads have been ripped away. Relationships are breaking down. Families are falling apart. People’s mental health is suffering. In 2021 Porchlight took referrals for more than 1000 people who were rough sleeping, and our free helpline received over 33,000 calls. The number of people needing our help has risen steeply, and as the full impact of the pandemic and the rising cost of living starts to take hold, we’re bracing ourselves for worse.

For one night only you can experience the beautiful Leeds Castle in a new way, whilst glimpsing the reality for rough sleepers who have no choice but to sleep outside every night. You will also have the chance to hear from someone who has encountered homelessness in their own life who will be sharing their story on the night. It is sure to be an enlightening experience.

There is no registration fee and a minimum fundraising target of £1000. Porchlight will receive 75% of your total fundraising or donation, with the remainder going to CEO Sleepout.

£750 goes a long way. It could cover the cost of 150 calls to our free helpline, a vital service providing a listening ear and advice for distressed individuals facing housing crisis or struggling with their mental health. Alternatively it could fund 7 move on packs of bedding, towels, crockery, kitchen equipment, cleaning products, food and electricals to help our clients feel more at home in their new accommodation. Whatever you raise will be gratefully received and the charities are both there to provide the support you need to maximise your fundraising.

If you’d like to take part, why not ask a colleague or business contact to join you, or if you aren’t available, nominate someone in your place!
