Charity Worker Living With Sclerosis Takes On 10 Peaks Challenge

Canterbury resident, Ann-Marie Bundock, diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in 2016, will be
climbing 10 Peaks in one day across the Lake District on Saturday 28 September to raise money for the Kent MS Therapy Centre. She’ll be supported by a team of others including her close friend Kim Burton, CEO of the charity Heidi Coleman and Rupert Mitchell who is partner of the charity’s Head of Income Generation, Nancy Reed.

The challenge itself is a tough one; the group will be taking on 10 summits including Scafell Pike in one 14.5 mile long push (23.3km) with approximately 5,479ft (1,670m) of uphill. They’ll be led by an experienced mountain guide along the way. They will set off at 7am and hope to complete the challenge within 10 hours. Unlike treks such as the Yorkshire 3 Peaks where there are respite stations, the group will stay on the Peaks the whole time and do not come down until the challenge is over.

Ann-Marie, who lives with Multiple Sclerosis, started as a volunteer at the Centre and is now the Health and Safety and HR Administrator for the charity says: “I am really looking forward to climbing the 10 Peaks. The Centre means a lot to me as eight years ago, my life changed forever as I received a diagnosis of Relapsing Remitting Multiple Sclerosis. I had a bad attack just after my 32 nd birthday, lost all my energy, strength and sense of taste and couldn’t taste my birthday cake. I did my first ever 5km during the week the attack happened, I couldn’t run but was determined to still do it, I walked in a very dizzy, weak state. Although most are shocked by my MS diagnosis, I fight a strong battle every day to keep myself strong mentally and physically. I was very lucky to find the Centre shortly after diagnosis, as I know most are not so lucky. The Kent MS Therapy Centre has helped me so much over the years. The main therapies I receive at the Centre include oxygen therapy, massage and reflexology. I now do my best to give back everything I can to help ensure its future to help those who are diagnosed with the disease.”

The team are raising money for the Kent MS Therapy Centre, a charity supporting those living with Multiple Sclerosis like Ann-Marie as well as other neurological conditions. At the Centre on Merton Lane North, members can access therapies to help improve or alleviate their symptoms such as hydrotherapy, oxygen therapy and physiotherapy.
