Saturday 8th September marks the 21st Anniversary for the ‘Funraisers Dragon Boat Festival’ at Bewl Water. Last year’s event saw over 1000 people competing and raised a staggering £107,000 50 different charities, since the event began in 1998 over 2.7million has been raised in total.

The first race of the day commences at 10am and finishes at around 4pm with the 10-boat grand final.

Teams of 16 paddlers, including a drummer, set out on the water in Chinese-style Dragon Boats as they prepare to compete in the 250 metre course. All abilities are welcome to participate, you don’t have to be skilled- it is all about teamwork and having fun whilst raising money for a good cause. Each team choose their own charity and all money raised will go to your charity of choice.

The race is run by Dragon Boat Events Ltd who provide all of the boats, helms, safety equipment, buoyancy aids and rescue boats, all teams need to do is bring themselves and spectators to watch!

The event is also a great day out for spectators, with plenty to see and do as well as supporting teams out on the water including tents and marquees selling cakes and other goodies. Bewl Water will also be hosting its usual activities of cycling, laser challenge, mini golf and much more.

The Waterfront Café will be serving hot drinks, refreshments and light bites throughout the course of the day as well as The Boat House Bistro which will also be serving home cooked, hot meals to enjoy after the event, open 12pm-9pm.

The event is free to attend, with the usual £3 parking charge for cars.
