Father’s Day release supports conservation efforts on its Philippine island home

Don Papa Rum, the premium single island rum, has unveiled its limited edition ‘Secrets of Sugarlandia’ gift canister for Father’s Day 2022, launched to raise awareness and support key conservation efforts on its island home of Negros Occidental, known locally as Sugarlandia.

Available from June 2022, the ‘Secrets of Sugarlandia’ canister is a mesmerizing tropical visual feat, encapsulating the rich, lush flora and fauna found on the island, and some of its critically endangered species including the Bleeding Heart Dove, Visayan Warty Pig and Visayan Spotted Deer, Visayan Tarictic Hornbill and Rufous-Headed Hornbill.

A percentage of the canister sales will go to support the important conservation work of key organisations on the island including the Talarak Foundation, which focuses on preserving and increasing the populations of these endangered and endemic species of Negros, and the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation, which leads conservation and sustainability programs on the island of Negros and several parts of the Philippines. Don Papa is in the process of developing partnerships with both.

The canister, which holds the Don Papa Rum 7-year-old blend, renowned for its long, rich-textured finish and flavours of vanilla, honey and fruit cake, features a QR Code scan link to learn more about the initiatives set up by Don Papa to protect the island and its creatures, which the brand takes its creative inspiration from.

Swing Into Spring with Don Papa Rum’s ‘Papa Negroni

If you don’t have professional cocktail equipment, just grab a large jar and half fill with ice, add all liquid ingredients and stir until jar is very cold to the touch. Strain drink into a tumbler full of fresh ice, clap the rosemary between your hands and poke into the drink. Rest a grapefruit wedge on top for garnish.

Grapefruit Wedge

Chin chin!

About Don Papa

Available in over 30 countries worldwide, Don Papa Rum is the first premium single island rum from the Philippines. Distilled and aged for over seven years in American oak barrels on the island of Negros Occidental (known locally as Sugarlandia), the pure, original Negros sugar cane is the foundation for Don Papa Rum’s long, rich-textured finish and flavours of vanilla, honey, and candied fruits. The namesake of Don Papa Rum is inspired by the unsung hero and mystic, Papa Isio, who was one of the leading figures of the late 19th century Philippine revolution. Initially a foreman at a sugar plantation, his leadership and courage played a critical part in liberating the island of Negros from Spanish rule. Don Papa is inspired by his legend and captures his spirit and sense of magic in every bottle.
