In a UK first, leading holiday airline Thomson Airways has revealed the names for its eighth and ninth Boeing 787, revolutionary Dreamliner’s to join its fleet as ‘Mr Patmore’ and ‘Mrs Patmore’, following a nationwide search to find the most romantic tale.

Thomson Airways launched its search to find a great love story in the run up to Valentine’s Day, the most romantic day of the year. The married couple, Hayley and Chris Patmore from Kent, entered the #DreamlinerLove competition by sharing their story via the Thomson Facebook page to be in with the chance of having the aircraft named after them and a £1000 holiday voucher, beating off hundreds of entries.

Mr and Mrs Patmore’s love story started 22 years ago when they met whilst on holiday with their families in Great Yarmouth when they were both just 13 years old. The pair kept their teenage romance alive by writing to one another, but the teens lost contact after a year. However the sparks flew three years later when they were reunited on the very same holiday. Years into their relationship, Mrs Patmore viewed an old holiday video of herself as a three year old swinging on a swing and noticed that the little boy on the swing next to her was her future husband – but they weren’t to meet for another 10 years.

John Murphy, Managing Director of Thomson Airways, said: “Last year we were really proud to welcome two more 787 Dreamliner’s onto our revolutionary fleet. Receiving delivery of two aircraft offered us a unique opportunity to name them as a pair, an opportunity which we gave back to our customers.

“The response to the #DreamlinerLove competition was overwhelming, Mr and Mrs Patmore’s story captured our attention and we look forward to taking the newly named aircraft to the skies.”

Mrs Patmore, who met her partner on holiday 22 years ago said: “We are over the moon to have been chosen as Thomson’s winners. We are all so excited to have our family name on the Dreamliner. It’s a once in a lifetime prize. We will use our prize to take our children on holiday for our wedding anniversary. Maybe beautiful Cyprus where we married in 2010.

Happy Couple

“Who would have thought our love story would have started on a holiday when we were just children ourselves.”

The Mr and Mrs Patmore aircraft follow the recent naming of its 7th 787 Dreamliner, Edie, following the “Name Our Plane” initiative on social media which asked the public to nominate and vote for a name for the state-of-the-art, revolutionary aircraft.
