Gravesend’s iconic Market refurbishment is underway

At the heart of Gravesend Town Centre, close to the main independent and high street retailers and accessible from the town’s car parks and public transport hub, Gravesend Borough Market is undergoing major refurbishment in 2016.  The £1.8 Million makeover, funded by Coastal Communities Funding which is managed by the Big Lottery on behalf of the UK Government, is being led by Gravesham Borough Council.

Contractors, Faithdean Plc, are making excellent progress with the works on site which will see one of England’s oldest charter markets, dating back to 1268, re-open before Christmas.  The works include extensive renovation of both the exterior and interior of the Market building, the installation of a new roof and glazed skylights, glass curtain walling to the Queen Street end of the building and the forming of individual trading units and a cafe.  A new canopy feature will enhance the entrance from what in time will become a Market Square and events space within the mixed-use redevelopment of the Gravesend Heritage Quarter.

Newly refurbished, Gravesend Borough Market can revitalise its role as a shopping experience and destination for local people and visitors to the Town and a focus for new start-up enterprises.

If you are interested in either a permanent or temporary stall at the newly refurbished Market please get in touch. Simply contact the Gravesend Market Management team via for more information.
