Guy Ritchie Launches Rosemaund Whisky: A New English Single Malt Whisky in Partnership With The Chase Family
British filmmaker Guy Ritchie has unveiled his latest project: Rosemaund Farm, a new English single malt whisky created in partnership with the Chase family, renowned farmers and distillers from Herefordshire.
Ritchie, known globally for his films, has long harboured a deep love for whisky – a fascination that has now evolved into a full-fledged distilling venture.
“I didn’t drink whisky or wine until I was 40…gradually it really just became all about the whisky…When you hit one you’re deeply in love with, it’s a conspicuous spiritual experience.” Guy Ritchie
Ritchie was introduced to the Chase family by his business partner, Leonid Shutov, the restaurateur behind London’s celebrated Bob Bob Ricard. Asked why he chose an English distillery over a Scottish one, Ritchie’s answer was characteristically direct: “Well, it’s English, isn’t it!”
For three generations, the Chase family have farmed the Herefordshire countryside. After building their success with Tyrrell’s crisps, they turned to spirits, launching the field-to-bottle Chase Distillery in 2008. Quietly, they also began laying down whisky stocks. When the English whisky revival took hold, those casks had already developed remarkable maturity.
Following Diageo’s acquisition of Chase Distillery in 2021 and the subsequent move of production to Scotland, the family seized the opportunity to buy back their whisky inventory – forming the foundation of Rosemaund Farm. Today, that whisky is being released as a 10-year-old single-estate English malt, among the oldest English whiskies ever bottled.
Crafted from Maris Otter barley, an English heritage grain, and matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and Pedro Ximénez sherry butts, the inaugural release reveals notes of honey-dipped apple and wildflowers, building to a spiced, dried-fruit finish.
“We wanted to make a whisky that really spoke of its place. Herefordshire is known for its orchards, so I looked for whiskies with apple and almond-meadowsweet notes – flavours that feel unmistakably English.” Tristan Stephenson, Rosemaund’s master blender
In true Guy Ritchie style, Rosemaund Farm also features a unique hospitality experience inspired by his other venture, WildKitchen – a collection of high-end outdoor cooking and dining setups, complete with copper-topped tables and herringbone throws, offering private tastings and by-invitation dinners at the distillery.
The family is welcoming guests from November onwards with the launch of Rosemaund Whisky Tours & WildKitchen Dining Experiences.
Participants are invited for a guided tour and tasting, followed by a fire-cooked WildKitchen lunch, prepared by former MasterChef: The Professional personality, Callum McDonald from the award-winning The Bookshop in Hereford, celebrating the best of Herefordshire produce.
