Holiday Extras Cleans Beach at Folkstone

A team from Newingreen-based travel extras company Holiday Extras is celebrating this month, having collected 13 bags of rubbish from Folkstone Beach.

The group, which consisted of 16 members of staff (and three dogs!), took to the beach to clear litter and help return it to a safer state for the visitors and dog-walkers that use it on a regular basis.

Amongst the litter that was collected during the beach clean, the company’s second operation this summer, the team found numerous sharp pull-tabs from cans. These tabs not only pose an environmental risk, but a safety one too.

Holiday Extras previously partnered with Surfers Against Sewage and Folkstone & Hythe Council to clean Lower Leas Beach back in June. The local firm also works with The Travel Foundation on an ongoing basis to help ensure that all tourism has a positive impact on local communities and the environment.

Seamus McCauley at Holiday Extras commented: “It’s always surprising to see just how much litter is on our beaches and it’s certainly alarming to find sharp objects that pose a real danger to small children and pets. By conducting the clean, we’re able to contribute to making Folkstone Beach a safer space for all and that’s something we’re incredibly passionate about.

“As a travel firm, we understand the impact that travel can have on the environment across the world. And, through our ongoing work with charity partners, we strive to play our part in limiting that impact as best as we can. Being based in such a beautiful part of the world, it’s only right that we seek out opportunities to make a difference closer to home here in the local community too.”
