Days Out

Horrible Science at Wakehurst this Easter – discover the gruesome truth about plants

Come and meet our creepy carnivorous plants and roll up your sleeves  for some  stinky experiments in a real-life laboratory – Horrible Science, based on the best-selling books by Nick Arnold, is at Wakehurst for the Easter holidays, 6 – 22 April.

As you arrive you’ll collect a booklet with a map of the activities spread throughout Wakehurst.

Stinky plant workshops, horrid plant games, a Botanists Hall of Fame and frightening face-painting will be waiting to lure you in.

Get started with our Wicked Weeds chocolate trail. A ghastly plant murder has taken place and there are five wicked weed suspects. Solve the mystery and reap your chocolate reward.

Visit our Wicked Weeds Crime Desk and create your own ‘wanted poster’, which will remind you to look out for villainous weeds growing all around you.

Roll up your sleeves and investigate some foul fungi in our lab. Meet our venus fly traps and work out how they catch their dinner – mind your fingers!

Everyone loves learning a foul fact or two and there are lots of gruesome ones behind the doors of our Plants Truths game.

Prepare yourself for the Vicious Veg at The Potting Shed. Have a go at our disgusting taste test and find out how fruit and veg tasted before it was cultivated. Get your hands dirty and have a go at planting your own beans to take home with you.

  • Activities are free apart from the Wicked Weeds Trail, Face-painting and the Stink Workshop which are £4 each.
