How to Train Your Dragon Swoops into Bodiam Castle
Get ready for the ultimate adventure and step into the enchanting world of How to Train Your Dragon at the historic Bodiam Castle. Follow in the footsteps of young Viking Hiccup, his trusty dragon Toothless and lots of other familiar friends on a brand-new family trail which kicked off this weekend and is set to run until 7 September.
In collaboration with Cressida Cowell, author and illustrator of the globally successful How to Train Your Dragon book series, and children’s publisher Hachette Children’s Group, a brand-new family activity trail is launching at Bodiam Castle this summer. This also coincides with a Universal live-action film adaptation of the books, releasing 13 June into cinemas nationwide
‘We’re delighted to be hosting a How to Train Your Dragon trail at Bodiam Castle this summer, inspired by Cressida Cowell’s books,’ said Beatrice Rapley, Visitor Experience and Programming Manager. ‘Behind the scenes, we’ve been busy crafting dragon eggs and working with designers on large-scale dragons to hide around the castle. We can’t wait to see children’s reactions as they follow the trail.’
Do you have what it takes to be a dragon trainer? Channel your inner Viking and set off on an epic journey to master the art of dragon training. The trail is packed with exciting games and activities that will teach you the secrets of success. Discover different dragon species, learn the forgotten language of Dragonese, design a dragon, uncover gruesome facts about Vikings – and more!
As part of the collaboration, Cressida Cowell will visit Bodiam Castle on Saturday 21 June for a live dragon drawing and Q&A session (no booking needed), followed by a book signing (booking essential). This is a wonderful opportunity for fans to meet the creator of the How to Train Your Dragon book series in the magical setting of a medieval castle.
How to Train Your Dragon has captivated audiences worldwide with its heartwarming stories and stunning illustrations. Whether you’re a long-time fan of the books, or new to the dragon world, this adventure is perfect for the whole family.
Cressida Cowell says: ‘I created the How to Train Your Dragon books to be read aloud – my aim is to get the adult reading to laugh as well as the child – so I love that Bodiam Castle have created an experience that’s fun all the whole family. I’m really looking forward to visiting on 21 June and seeing everyone’s photos!’
The trail will be available until Sunday 7 September, and is £3 with normal admission. Children will receive a small gift to mark the end of their journey. To find out more visit
