Days Out

June is in full bloom at Godinton House

Take a new view of the Rose Garden from Twin Borders

June is burstin’ out all over at Godinton House & Gardens with the rose garden looking resplendent with newly buffed statues and beautiful roses that are ‘just ready to pop’.

For many years the Rose Garden had been hidden from view by a large copper beech hedge but now that has been lowered the roses can be enjoyed with a new view from the Twin Borders.

Assistant Head Gardener Sarah Lane said: “June is an incredible time of year to visit Godinton with roses in their full glory including dramatic cream and orange climbers that set off the red brickwork of the house to perfection.

“The Rose Garden is an important, original feature of the Formal Garden and we are very excited about how it is looking this year.

“We have reduced the height of the Rose Garden hedge, retaining its purpose as a peaceful sanctuary but allowing in more light. It can now be enjoyed from the outside, as well as the inside, so do come along to see it for yourselves – the roses are just ready to pop!”

Roses also edge many walls including those leading down to the large Lily Pond where the waterlilies are opening in the sunshine. The Lily Pond is another lovely quiet space to relax and watch grey wagtails skim the water to catch insects. Last year a family of little grebes made it their home taking advantage of shelter under two weeping willows, so guests are invited to keep an eye open for wildlife.
