Kent goes Gung-Ho! with BBC Children in Need
Fundraisers invited to take part in 5K inflatable obstacle race at Brands Hatch
BBC Children in Need is inviting fun-seekers to take part in Gung-Ho!, a 5K giant inflatable obstacle course which will bring its UK tour to Brands Hatch, Kent on 4th June 2016. Participants are challenged to run, walk or giggle their way through the crazy inflatables for the charity as part of Team Pudsey. Those that pledge sponsorship will receive a discounted ticket for £30 via www.bbc.co.uk/Pudsey, as well as a free t-shirt, training support and goodies on the day.
A race like no other, the 5K Gung-Ho! course is made up of 10 giant inflatable obstacles that participants have to run, crawl and climb over to complete the challenge. These include gigantic ball pits, super-sized slides and a 5,000 square foot inflatable moon walk. The course is completely unique and runners don’t have to be an athlete to take part!
Speaking of the event Jonathan Rigby, Director of Marketing at BBC Children in Need, said: “We’re so excited to be visiting Kent with the first ever Gung-Ho! for BBC Children in Need. It’s a fun new way for supporters to challenge themselves whilst raising money to help change the lives of disadvantaged children and young people. It doesn’t matter if you’re a pro-athlete or first time runner, we can’t wait to see you there!”
Gung-Ho! co-founder, Alex Winters, added: “We’re so happy to have BBC Children in Need on board as exclusive national charity partner. Whether people participate as part of a group or individually, these events are all about having fun. By encouraging people to pledge their sponsorship to charity though, we’ll be helping people do good whilst they’re at it.”
The Gung-Ho! tour is visiting 12 towns and cities throughout the spring and summer months. Following Kent the tour will be visiting Edinburgh and Sandwell Valley in June. July will see the course travel to Newcastle, Milton Keynes and Liverpool, before the event lands in Maidenhead and finishes in Nottingham on 17th September.
BBC Children in Need now funds 35 projects in Kent with over £1.8 million hard at work to benefit young lives in the area. One of the funded projects in the area includes Relate North Kent, the grant enables the organisation to continue its counselling sessions for young people in and around Longfield. The sessions, which take place at Rowhill School, provide support addressing a number of behavioural and emotional issues such as communication problems, physical and mental health issues, bullying and isolation – whilst aiding increased confidence and wellbeing for the young people who attend. The funded sessions are delivered by qualified, skilled and sensitive counsellors, with specialist counselling tailored to suit the needs of the participants.
BBC Children in Need currently supports some 2,400 projects, all working with disadvantaged children and young people across the UK. Each and every penny donated to the Charity will go to projects working with young people who need it most, including those affected by illness, disability, poverty or abuse.
