Knot & Grain Launches Versailles: A Bespoke Oak Pane

Wood flooring design studio and manufacturer, Knot & Grain, has launched the Classic Versailles panel, a large-format engineered oak floor that pays homage to classic European parquetry.

The new panel adds a third style to the range, alongside straight plank and herringbone, giving customers a fully bespoke option to one of parquetry’s most enduring patterns.

Knot & Grain, Classic Versailles £160 per m2

Supplied as complete 800 x 800mm panels, each Classic Versailles floor showcases a carefully designed geometric weave that enhances light and space in large rooms and grand entranceways.

This pattern, which has defined sophisticated European interiors for centuries, is made truly bespoke by Knot & Grain. Crafted from the brand’s Classic grade European oak, each panel features natural character and medium knots for an authentic, timeless appearance.

The timber is gently brushed to highlight its organic grain, creating a tactile surface. Combining heritage craftsmanship with the structural benefits of premium engineered oak, the floor offers an enduring, high-end foundation suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors. Each panel can be tailored to individual taste, with a choice of colour from Knot & Grain’s collection, finished in either a protective oil, matt oil or lacquer.

Natalie Mudd, co-founder and creative director at Knot & Grain, comments: “With Versailles, we wanted to create a floor that doesn’t just sit underfoot; it makes a statement. The scale of each panel and the depth of the pattern bring an instant sense of grandeur to a room, the kind of architectural impact you’d expect from a grand entranceway or a great hall, but reimagined for the way people actually live today.”
At 20mm thick with an extra chunky 6mm French oak veneer, each plank features a 4-sided medium bevelled edge that adds definition and interest to the overall floor. The panels interlock perfectly for a robust floor with no gaps or movement and a professional finish, and thanks to its layered structure, the floor conducts heat efficiently, making it suitable for all types of underfloor heating systems.
