LOCAL CHARITY TO BOOST ASPIRATIONS OF MEDWAY CHILDREN

Local church Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) is bringing together leading educationalists and professionals for Create your Tomorrow – a FREE one day event for 11-18 year olds and their parents.

In a bid to inspire Medway youths KICC’s event will feature professionals from the University of Oxford, the Principal of the school with the UK’s best 2018 A level results, representatives from  fortune global 500 company – Accenture and other inspiring figures.

KICC’s Senior Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo said: “The Church exists to make people’s lives better and we want to do that by empowering the next generation within our local community.

“We have a department dedicated to the vision of emboldening people to aim for educational excellence in spite of economic, cultural, financial or educational barriers. Our team is called Breaking Educational Barriers, or BEB.”

BEB’s Co-ordinator Teresa Esan MBE added: “Kent has one of the highest concentrations of grammar schools in the country. The grammar schools consistently outperform most of the other state schools presenting a geographical imbalance in educational opportunities and aspirations.  Through activities like our up-coming conference, we’re seeking to redress such imbalances by challenging low aspirations, and a lack of opportunity. It’s our goal to encourage young people to be the best they can be, irrespective of which school they attend.”

We have brought together guests who represent the best in their fields to highlight how to gain entry to one of the best universities in the world; share information about apprenticeships, including how to apply and where to get support, and we’ll also be looking at how children who don’t attend grammar schools can still be well equipped to attend Oxbridge and Russell group Universities. We’re hoping to see as many young people as possible that day.”

Hosted by Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo, the event guest speakers are Dr Lucy Busfield and Elana Sorochina of Oxford University; Dr Dayo Olukoshi, Executive Head Teacher of Brampton Manor Academy – the school with the UK’s best 2018 ‘A’ level results, and Pedro Phinn Recruitment, Accenture.

Create your tomorrow is FREE and will be held on June 22nd at 11am at KICC Buckmore Park ME5 9QG. Registration is required. You can register at: kiccbebconf.eventbrite.co.uk
