Local Kent Girl Wins UK Christmas Card Competition
Following a national competition with children’s charity, Rays of Sunshine, Clintons in Chatham, Kent is welcoming a local young designer to the store. The ‘Design a Christmas Card’ competition gave young children the opportunity to have their ideas brought to life, to be sold in aid of their chosen charities.
On 6th November sixteen-year-old (fifteen at the time of judging) Paris Harvey, from Gillingham, Kent, was presented with a golden ticket worth £50 and saw her winning design in the flesh. Her reindeer inspired design, one of two winners in the competition, is on sale in stores across the country with 15% of the money raised going to the charity.
Clintons chose the winning design from a huge number of entries with illustrations ranging from nativity scenes to stockings above the fireplace and winter landscapes.
Rays of Sunshine works to brighten the lives of children who are living with serious or life limiting illnesses in the UK aged 3-18 by granting wishes. Since their creation in 2003, they have granted 7000 wishes such as meeting celebrities, makeovers, driving experiences and swimming with sharks to name a few.
Jane Sharpe, CEO of Rays of Sunshine, said: “We’re so grateful to our partners Clintons for turning Paris’s Christmas card design in to a reality. It’s incredible to see her card on sale in stores up and down the country – she is clearly a very talented young lady. The funds raised this festive season will enable Rays of Sunshine to continue to brighten the lives of seriously ill children across the UK, just like Paris. Over the past six years Clintons has helped us to grant over 600 magical wishes for brave and deserving young people and we can’t be more thankful to them for their ongoing support.”
Susan Lowe, Chatham store manager for Clintons said: “We think Paris’s design is fantastic. Out of all of our beautifully designed cards, Paris’ stands out from the crowd and looks great on the shelf. Clintons is very proud to support Rays of Sunshine and we have no doubt this card will help us to raise money for more special wishes to be granted.”
As well as the money raised from this special card, other Rays of Sunshine branded cards and pens are available in stores and Clintons is donating the full levy charge from every carrier bag used to the charity
The Rays of Sunshine cards can be found in all stores and online at www.clintonsretail.com
Clintons are also proud supporters of Mind, the leading mental health charity in England and Wales, and launched a fundraising effort where they will support the charity financially and promote Mind’s mission to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem.
Mind-branded pens are now on sale in English stores, with 25p per pen from the total proceeds of their pen sales donated to the charity. Mind is the fourth partner for Clintons’ charity Christmas card range, and the retailers’ newly-opened UK design studio will help to produce a bespoke range in February 2020 from which 15 % of each card purchase price ex VAT will be donated to the charity.
