Mons en Lumières stands out as one of the most important events in the City of Mons

Mons en Lumières has just closed its very first edition in style with no less than 144,738 visitors, an exceptional success for an event which was taking its first steps! The festival benefited from significant coverage in the media and on social networks throughout the country and even beyond, as well as excellent word of mouth through visitors who left enchanted by these eight evenings. timeless, placed under the sign of surrealism and poetry. The 27 light works installed on a 3km route allowed us to rediscover the city, and in particular places less known to the general public, freshly renovated neighborhoods and restored heritage .

The objective pursued by the City of Mons was above all to bring back as many people as possible during a particularly slow period and therefore difficult for businesses, which extends from the end of the sales to spring.

Ultimately, Mayor Nicolas Martin intends to establish “Mons en Lumières” as an unmissable event on the Walloon calendar, capable of attracting thousands of visitors from all over the country and surrounding areas, further strengthening the city as a top Belgian tourist destination. first choice. “ This success was made possible thanks to the professionalism of the City teams, the police and volunteers. I would like to thank them. For Mons, this event is a very good operation: it is financed by European Funds and generates very good economic benefits for the local commercial fabric. As a reminder, the subsidies obtained were intended only for tourist and cultural projects, we fought to obtain them (otherwise they would have gone elsewhere) and so that our region could shine .”

Mons en Lumières was a huge success which allowed restaurants and hotels to be full for eight evenings, without stopping. Where, usually, the period is particularly calm on the commercial level, HORECA establishments have been full!

A reinforced bus and train offer, which the City intends to increase for future editions, with the assistance of the TEC and the SNCB, also allowed the festival to attract visitors from all over the country and beyond. of the. In short, the city center was packed with people and the atmosphere was very warm.

“ The teams are galvanized by this popular success and esteem. This gives us the energy necessary to prepare an even more impressive show during the second edition in 2025. Building on this first experience, we intend to place the cursor even a little higher ” rejoices Natacha Vandenberghe, Director of the Culture and Tourism department.
