ONE GREAT DAY – FUN RAISING FOR KIDS

The Walnuts Shopping Centre in Orpington is taking part for the first time in the national ONE GREAT DAY, a UK wide annual charity fundraising day, raising money and support for Great Ormond Street Hospital Children’s Charity and another local children’s charity close to the heart of each community. The Walnuts Shopping Centre have chosen the Maypole Project as our local Charity. ONE GREAT DAY is a registered charity and was initiated by parents whose son received care at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

ONE GREAT DAY was established in 2014 and has so far raised over £400,000 for more than 90 different children’s health charities across the country. Their aim is to inspire, engage and empower our community to make a difference by getting involved in a series of local fundraising events held within each shopping centre across the UK on ONE GREAT DAY!

Our event on Saturday 2nd June will be along the lines of fun entertainment whilst learning at the same time. We have our ever-popular rescue donkeys visiting us, where kids can learn about where they came from, how they were rescued and how to look after them properly. Donations of carrots are always welcome and left overs are taken back to the Donkey Sanctuary to be shared with the other Donkeys there. Children will be able to go for a little ride too!

Also for those who prefer the cold blooded scaly type of creature we have our fabulous reptile shows running at intervals throughout the day. Again a great educational yet fun way to learn about smaller critters in the wild.

Apart from this we will also have a craft tent for the children to paint and decorate Happy Rocks to take away and keep or leave somewhere hidden for someone else to find and bring a smile to. Giant garden games and a fab crazy golf game will also be here to keep the party going! Plus a raffle with some truly great prizes donated by our lovely tenants. All our usual events are free to our local community throughout the year and we hope that on this ONE GREAT DAY visitors will “give back” to these chosen charities by donating to take part in the events. 100% of all the money raised will be split equally between GOSH & The Maypole Project.
