Pedalling for purpose with The Evie Dove Foundation

Join the upcoming charity bike ride to raise funds for The Evie Dove Foundation; raising funds to help sick children and save young lives. This summer, on Saturday 15th June, the charity is holding an epic event featuring a 28 mile bike ride, mostly off-road through the beautiful Kent countryside. Following the success of their annual coastal walk which saw over 200 people walk the coastline of Folkestone, they are now launching an event for those who enjoy a great day out on two wheels!

The Evie Dove Foundation was founded after Evie Dove, a local girl, lost her life to brain cancer at just age 13. She loved life and lived it fully, known for her kindness to others, even in her darkest hours. The charity raises funds to support the education of passionate paediatric clinicians, inspired by Evie’s health care assistant Cuba, who provided Evie with exceptional care during her time in hospital. He wanted to advance in his career, but lacked the funds, and so the charity set out on a mission to ensure clinicians like Cuba, had the opportunity to advance their education helping more sick children and saving young lives.

In under 2 years, the charity has raised a staggering £250,000+ and sponsored 50 NHS clinicians, named ‘Evie Dove Heroes’. Their specialties range from oncology, haematology, neonatal, end of life, allergy, sleep, play, trauma, critical care… the list goes on and on! The difference made to other children like Evie is simply immeasurable.

Now, the foundation has teamed up with local artisan bike builders Craft Bikes, run by James and Chloe who have years of cycling experience, and a route has been planned to help lead a charity ride in a safe, fun and professional way. There are 100 places and the ride is available for ages from 12+ (with a baseline of fitness required).

The ride will be an enjoyable and challenging 28 mile (45 km) ride through the beautiful Kent countryside, taking in byways, forest trails, gravel paths and some country roads. A mix of scenery and riding surfaces but nothing too technical! The experts have carefully mapped out (…and test ridden many times!) a route that spends as much time off road as possible, the ride will be achievable on a gravel bike or a mountain bike with appropriate tyres. It’s not a race but a chance to soak up the fresh air and countryside, conducted in a fun and social way. This event will need good levels of fitness, some training and the right bike!

Tickets are just £25 per person (or £80 for a team of 4) and include a TEDF/Craft Bikes water bottle, a wood-fired pizza (courtesy of Barney & The Pizza) and a craft beer (or soft drink) donated by a local craft brewery for all their finishers. The fundraising target is a minimum of £50 per person, but the charity hopes participants go on to raise as much as possible for such an amazing cause. For anyone that raises £100 or more in advance of event day the charity is gifting participants with an Evie Dove Foundation T-shirt too!  They will also be available for purchase on the day.
