Set the date for Jazz on the Lawn

Following last year’s spectacular debut event, Tudor Park Marriott Hotel & Country Club in Bearsted is set to host its second `Jazz on the lawn’ on Sunday, June 17.

And this year it has enlisted the multi-talented young Kent musician, Harry Whitty, to get toes tapping to an afternoon of vibrant swing hits and popular jazz songs.

At just 17, the singer-songwriter, pianist and trombonist has already wowed audiences at top note jazz venues such at The Vortex in London and was a leading light in the Kent Youth Jazz Orchestra (KYJO) which recently performed at the London Marathon.

KYJO’s musical director, Graham Mann said: “Harry was our trombone principal and is a very experienced musician. He is excellent at improvisation and is multi-talented – he can be playing the trombone one minute then on the keys the next, and singing as well. I have had the great privilege of playing alongside Harry on many occasions and I am sure Tudor Park’s guests will really enjoy his band’s performance.”

The Jazz on the Lawn afternoon will be set in the gardens of the hotel, overlooking a fairy-tale gazebo, a nature reserve, and with views across the 18-hole championship golf course and the carefully-tended grounds which were once a medieval deer park.

On the menu, will be Tudor Park’s acclaimed afternoon tea – a feast of delicate sandwiches, cakes, sweet treats, and scones that defy gravity. And of course, lashings of cream and replenished pots of tea.

“We were fortunate to have the Kent Youth Jazz Orchestra play here at Christmas and are very excited to have one of their talented alumni host our Jazz on the Lawn event,” said Tudor Park’s Senior Event Manager, Julia Ashton. “Last year’s event was a sell-out and what could be better than listening to live jazz on a summer’s day in beautiful Kent countryside?”

The afternoon begins at 2pm with tea and coffee, and then Harry’s band, the Harry Whitty Trio, will be performing from 2.30pm. Afternoon tea will be served at 3.30pm with more live jazz from 4pm. Jazz on the Lawn is £25 per person. Book early to avoid disappointment.  Call 01622 632006 or e-mail
