Street Eats Festival of Food – Fremlin Walk
Masterchef finalist and chef Angela Langford to bake up a storm at Fremlin Walk’s Street Eats festival of food
Prepare to tickle your taste buds as Fremlin Walk’s first ever festival of food hits the centre on Saturday 16th July, featuring live demonstrations by Masterchef finalist Angela Langford and chef Richard Hunt.
There’s also your chance to be crowned Fremlin Walk’s Bake Off champion as the popular competition returns for its second year – with a twist!
Expect a frenzy of foodie delights with star act Angela Langford, who made it all the way to the Masterchef final in 2015. Angela will be performing live on stage at 12pm, 1pm and 2pm, delighting the crowds, showing shoppers how to recreate her delicious summer recipes at home, and perhaps even divulging a few hints from her days on top TV show Masterchef!
Shoppers can also sample delicious delights from Fremlin Walk’s eateries and enjoy more demonstrations throughout the day from chef Richard Hunt. The centre is installing a full working pop-up kitchen for the day, complete with big screens showing the chefs creating their tasty street food, meaning you won’t miss a trick.
The fun doesn’t stop there: Fremlin Walk’s Bake Off competition returns this July, with 10 finalists’ offerings being judged at Street Eats in a panel led by Angela Langford! This year, Fremlin Walk will be crowing TWO champion bakers, one in the adult category, and one in a brand new children’s category! Entries are open for children aged 8 to 14 years, or people over 15 years old in the adult category. This will be a fabulous and friendly competition, and bakers are encouraged to have fun and get involved as a family!
10 members of the public (5 adults, 5 children) will be invited to submit pre-made cakes for the competition. As well as the acclaim of becoming Fremlin Walk’s Champion Baker for 2016, there are lots of amazing prizes up for grabs. Entries are open now, so visit Fremlin Walk’s website or Facebook page to enter.
Last year’s champion was Gemma Hardy from Maidstone, who wowed a panel of judges with her delicious Frasier cake (pictured) inspired by none other than the queen of bakers, Mary Berry. Gemma created a beautifully decorated cake that also delivered on taste and flavour combinations – the judges commented that her cake was light, summery and very delicate, with a little kick of kirsch!
Lloyd Wright, Centre Manager at Fremlin Walk, is looking forward to the Street Eats festival of food:
“Fremlin Walk has a growing food offer, complemented by our most recent additions Bill’s Restaurant and Patisserie Valerie who joined an already strong mix at the centre.
“This summer, we’re celebrating this excellent foodie variety available for our customers by launching our first ever food festival! We’re really looking forward to welcoming Angela Langford from Masterchef as our guest of honour. We can’t wait to meet her and see some of her amazing culinary creations in person – and we hope she’ll enjoy being on the judging side of things for a change, as head reviewer of our bake-off competition!
“We’re currently still accepting entries (the competition closes on 10th July) and the standard this year is looking incredible. Angela and the rest of the panel are in for a treat! We’ll also be selling slices of the shortlisted cakes in aid of Great Ormond Street Hospital throughout the day.”
