Sutton Valence School – Blyth Bursary

The Blyth Bursary has been introduced at Sutton Valence School to offer a Sixth Form place to a talented and deserving pupil. This Bursary will widen access to the School to young people who show a level of excellence, whose family could not otherwise consider independent education on financial grounds. The means-tested bursary, worth up to 100% of day or boarding fees, will be offered to one pupil per year, or divided between two or three families, if financially viable.

If possible, the Blyth Bursary will be offered to a pupil, or several pupils, who live in the towns and villages close to Sutton Valence School.

Application Process

Interested individuals are invited to apply through the School’s normal Sixth Form scholarship process. Awards are available for art, drama, design technology, music and sport. Applicants for September 2018 entry should be in Year 11 at their current school. For further details, please visit the Admissions section of the Sutton Valence School website.

Suitable applicants will be invited to attend a scholarship assessment day in early February, to include an interview with the Headmaster. In addition, the School will wish to see reports from the applicant’s current school.

All candidates must meet the minimum academic standards for entry to Sutton Valence School, and in practice should be able to demonstrate strong academic potential given the competition for the Bursary.

What will it cover?

The Bursary will cover all boarding or day fees. As long as acceptable academic progress is maintained, the Bursary will cover both academic years of study in the Sixth Form. It will not cover lunch or transportation costs. The Bursary will be subject to an annual means-tested review.

Closing Date for Applications

The closing date for applications for Sixth Form Scholarships and Blyth Bursary is Saturday 20th January 2018.

Sutton Valence School

Although steeped in more than 440 years of history and tradition, Sutton Valence School is innovative and passionate about developing its curriculum to extend the learning of every pupil. In recent years, the School has gone from strength-to-strength. Examination grades are consistently improving and students are flourishing within their passions, whilst being stretched as they take on new challenges.

None of this is by chance; the School leadership team is focused on continuous improvement and innovation.  Our four journeys (Academic, Enrichment, Community and Leadership and Service) create bespoke challenges for each child that develop strengths and address weaknesses. Pupils are stretched to surpass their expectations, not just in exams, but their whole education.

No child is the same as another and, through our Journeys, we enable our students to find their niche. This not only helps individual self-confidence but also inspires the pupils to apply their passion and self-discipline to other areas of School life. As they mature, they will grow in their determination and self-esteem, leaving the School as confident, charming and capable, but not arrogant, young adults.
