Intercoastal CIC has announced the launch of The Pelagian Opera Festival, to be held this summer at The Salutation in Sandwich, Kent.  Taking place between 28 June – 7 July 2019, performances will be staged in The Salutation’s award- winning gardens, either as afternoon opera picnics or as evening opera cabaret performances.

Intercoastal CIC is an initiative formed by The Salutation and conservatoires and music schools within the UK and Europe, and was set up to create a new platform for emerging musical talent. Taking inspiration from the now defunct Batignano Festival in Tuscany, and Les Florissantes festival in France, The Pelagian Festival will make full use of the garden surroundings to provide the backdrop for the productions. The theme of this year’s festival is “As if by Magic”, and will be presented in association with The Museum of Witchcraft and Magic in Cornwall, the newly-launched Museum of British Folklore, based in Dover, and the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag, Netherlands.

Afternoon performances will be of Die Kleine Zauberflöte, a new and abridged reimagining of Mozart’s The Magic Flute.  Evening performances will maintain the magic theme, but take the form of opera cabarets, with an eclectic range of both well-known operatic performances and lesser-known baroque and classical pieces.

The Salutation’s Head Chef Shane Hughes will create menus for both the evening and daytime performances, celebrating the best of the seasonal local Kent produce.  Tickets for the afternoon performances will be available to those wishing to bring their own picnics, as well as those who wish to enjoy one of The Salutation’s hampers (which include a half bottle of wine per adult ticketholder).  Tickets for the evening performances are inclusive of a three- course dinner served in the garden before the performance, also including a half bottle of wine per person.

Die Kleine Zauberflöte: Saturday 6 July; and Sunday 7 July – all 2pm-6pm. BYO picnic tickets: £52pp for adults; £26pp for children.

The Salutation hamper tickets: £68pp for adults; £34pp for children.

Opera Cabaret: Friday 5 July; and Saturday 6 July – all 7pm-10.30pm. Bronze view tickets £120pp; Silver view tickets £140pp; Gold view tickets £160pp.
